Our national capital city, NEW DELHI, also has several old monuments such as the RED FORT, the QUTUB MINAR. The Red Fort or LAL QILA was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. It's construction began in 1639 CE and was completed after 9 years. The fort is surrounded by now defunct moats which were fed earlier by the Yamuna River on the banks of which the fort was built. The artwork in the fort is a fusion of Persian, European and Indian art forms. On 15 August every year our Prime Minister deliverers speech from the Red Fort. the Qutub Minar is one of the tallest brick and stone minarets in the world. Qutubuddin Aibak of the Slave dynasty laid it's foundation in 1199 CE and it was completed in 1230 CE. The LOTUS TEMPLE, located in New Delhi, is a Bahai House of worship that was dedicated in December 1986. Notable for its flower-like shape, it has become a prominent attraction in the city. A 2001 CNN report referred to it as the most visited building in the world.
