The name Pattachitra has evolved from the Sanskrit words patta (meaning canvas) and Chitra (meaning picture). It is an art form of Medinipur district of West Bengal. It is one of the oldest and most popular art forms practised in Odisha and West Bengal. This art form is believed to have originated as early as the 12th century which makes it more historical. The picture depicts the attempt of human beings to keep our Mother Earth green and clean. We all are looking forward to a cleaner, brighter and healthier earth.
