Madhubani art (or Mithila painting) is a style of Indian painting, practiced in the Mithila region of the Indian subcontinent. This painting is done with a variety of tools, including fingers, twigs, brushes, nib-pens, and matchsticks , using natural dyes and pigments. It is characterised by its eye-catching geometrical patterns. There is ritual content for particular occasions, such as birth or marriage, and festivals, such as Holi, Surya Shasti, Kali Puja, Upanayana, and Durga Puja. Madhubani painting (Mithila painting) was traditionally created by the women of various communities in the Mithila region of the Indian subcontinent. It originated from Madhubani district of the Mithila region of Bihar. Traditionally, painting was one of the skills that was passed down from generation to generation in the families of the Mithila Region, mainly by women. It is still practiced and kept alive in institutions spread across the Mithila region. Kalakriti in Darbhanga, Vaidehi in Madhubani, Benipatti in Madhubani district and Gram Vikas Parishad in Ranti are some of the major centres of Madhubani painting which have kept this ancient art form alive. Madhubani art has five distinctive styles: Bharni, Kachni, Tantrik, Godna and Kohbar. My art work - The topic, 'Heal the world' has a vast significance. The Madhubani paintings usually depict plants, birds and rural women. I have made a huge tree to depict the benefits of it. How the tree provides shade to the tired people, thus providing a relaxing sensation. The trees even provide shelter to the birds and animals, thus, proving that they are healing them becasue the meaning of healing is a true sense of happiness, relaxation and satisfaction. I have even made a rural woman planting another tree, a rural woman watering the tree to show that the relationship between the tree and the people is not profitable only for the people or birds/animals. The trees and plants are also living things. If we take care of them, they will be healed. I have even made a woman feeding the birds so that they also get food and are happy and satisfied. Thus, if each and every living being on earth is happy, healed, relaxed and satisfied, then the world is healed! To make this art work I have used an A4 size paper and made a tree in the center using brown poster colour. I made some patterns on the tree with white poster colour to contribute to the native art style. Then I created some women and painted them with bright colours like red, blue, yellow, etc. I even made a bird and painted it very brightly and colourfully. Then I filled the remaining white space on the sheet with leaves.
