My artwork based on the theme "Heal the World" is inspired by Worli Folk Painting. Maharashtra is known for its Worli Forl Painting. Worli is the name of the largest tribe found near the northern part of Mumbai. Worli tribesmen shun all influences of urbanization. It was first discovered in the seventies. There are no records of exact origins but its roots may be traced to as early as the 10th century A.D. Women are mostly engaged in the creation of these paintings. The colour is mud colour base and white colour with occasional dots in red and yellow. This color is obtained from grinding rice into powder. many of the Worli paintings that represent Palghat(the marriage god) often include a horse used by the bride and groom. The painting is sacred and without it the marriage cannot take place. it is believed that these paintings invoke powers of the Gods. Worli paintings now on paper are very popular and are sold all over the world that is something which the Worli tribe should be proud of.
