Name of the Street Food: Crunchy Munchy Bhel
Origin: Bhel is often identified as a 'beach snack', in Chowpatty and Juhu, Mumbai One theory of its origin is that it was invented at a restaurant called Vithal near Victoria Terminus in Mumbai.
Recipe:- 1. First we need to take a bowl of puffed rice. 2. To it add tomato, chopped onion, sliced cucumber, pomegranate and lemon juice. 3. Then add green chutney which is made with coriander leaves and gooseberry. 4. Sprinkle black salt according to taste and mix all the ingredients well. 5. Garnish it with coriander leaves and some sev.
Healing properties present in the ingredients:- 1.Bhel gives instant energy as it acts as fuel. 2.Puffed rice relieves constipation, promotes digestion, boosts immunity and regulates blood pressure.
Interesting facts related to the dish:- 1.The original Mumbai ‘Bhel recipe’ has spread to most parts of India, where it has been modified to suit the local food availability. 2.The Bengali variant of bhelpuri is called ‘Jhalmuri’. 3. In Mangalore it is called as ‘Churumuri’ or ‘churmuri. Nutritive Value:- Puffed rice: It is rich in fibre so relieves constipation and promotes digestion. Green chutney: It is made with coriander leaves and gooseberry. Gooseberry is rich in Vitamin C which is a powerful antioxidant. Onions: Onions contain antioxidants. Tomatoes: Tomatoes are rich in Vitamin A and Vitamin C. Cucumber: Cucumber hydrates our body. Lemon juice: Rich in Vitamin C. Lemons may aid weight loss and reduce the risk of heart disease, anaemia, kidney stones. Black salt: Black salt has antioxidant properties and low sodium levels. It also contains important minerals like iron, calcium, and magnesium. Black salt stimulates bile production in the liver and helps control heartburn and bloating. Coriander leaves: The vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants in coriander provide significant health benefits. Pomegranate: Pomegranate has antioxidant, anti-viral and anti-tumour properties and is said to be a good source of vitamins, especially Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E, as well as folic acid.
